Model 3 history and design guidelines

Once upon a time, far away in the mountains and forests, there lived a guy named Tomek. Tomek dreamed of being able to buy professional drums with hardware for 3500 zloty. Tomek wondered why top drum manufacturers didn't offer professional attributes to drums in this price range, because that's what he wanted to sell. Instead of waiting for salvation, he thought, well, I guess I have to do this myself. By pure coincidence, Tomek is a production technologist and architect, so he knew how to approach it. Design work took a long time, with prototype after prototype. But there we go...

My drums had to have:

  • 100% birch shells without cheap poplar fillers - done
  • professionally processed bearing edge so the head sits well and tunes beautifully - done
  • beautiful metal logo in vintage style, not a plastic badge - done
  • non-drilled lugs - done
  • non-invasive professional tom suspension - done
  • beautiful lacquer with visible wood grain, not cheap thin wrap - done
  • loved that blue lacquer finish - done
  • platform-based pedal with double chain easy to mount to the lug, plus hi-hat with spring tension adjustment - also done
  • ball-and-socket tom holders that screw from both sides and don't sag during playing - done
  • authentic tone - also done

Hmm, looks like we have success - welcome to Polmuz

FEATURES

100% birch shells

The shells of the Birch series are made from 6 layers of birch with a total thickness of 4.8 mm. The highest priority in designing Polmuz drums was sound. Balanced midrange and high frequencies ensure great versatility across many musical styles. Full, focused tone and resonance richness of the shells were achieved through the use of carefully selected layers of birch, as well as focus on shell forming and bearing edge shape.

Bearing edges

The 45° bearing edge angle ensures optimal contact with the head. Each bearing edge in Polmuz drums has been sanded and additionally waxed, ensuring perfect head-to-shell contact. The consequence of this solution is pure tone across the full frequency range. Sharp bearing edge on toms delivers quick attack and short sustain, while the rounded bearing edge on bass drums generates unique and warm vintage tone.

Finish

The lacquer finish of Polmuz drums gives each set a unique look and distinctive tone. The lacquer used on the finish of Polmuz birch drums is of excellent quality. The gorgeous blue color transitioning to black will delight even the most discerning tastes. The composition and application method of the lacquer correspond to those used in high-end series of renowned brands.

Chrome hardware

In Polmuz drums, all hardware is finished with a chrome plating. The cast logo on Polmuz shells is a true declaration of quality and style. Made from solid brass and chrome-plated, the Polmuz nameplate is a guarantee and signature of excellent craftsmanship on every drum.

Mounting system

A non-invasive mounting system ensures maximum resonance and stability regardless of conditions. This construction makes it easy to position toms closer together, providing greater flexibility and comfort.

Bass drum lugs

The lugs on Polmuz sets are equipped with rubber washers that help protect wooden hoops from damage. In this design, the lugs and hoops form one cohesive unit, so they don't separate or rattle, even with loose tuning.

Heads

The drums feature high-quality 1-ply struck heads under the Remo brand

Bass drum heads additionally feature a wide muffling collar. The resonant heads are distinguished by characteristic black heads with a clear Polmuz logo.

ABOUT THE BRAND

Polmuz - legendary brand producing the first Polish drums, known to every percussionist. The company was founded in the 1960s, with its factory located at Grochowska 75/77 Street in Warsaw. Besides drums, Polmuz also produced shakers and wind instruments. The last drums were made in the late 1990s, and the brand subsequently disappeared from the market. In 2018, the team of the specialist drum shop DrumStore from Gdynia decided to revive the Polmuz brand by purchasing full rights to its name.

Today, Polmuz represents high-quality drum sets and ethnic instruments that are in no way inferior to the best products of the competition. Bold design combined with proven solutions has made Polmuz rapidly conquer not only the Polish percussion market, but also the hearts of those who remember their first Polmuz drums.
