Model 3 History and Design Guidelines

Once upon a time, far far away beyond seven mountains and forests, there lived a man named Tomek. Tomek dreamed of being able to buy professional drums with hardware for 3500 PLN. Tomek wondered why top drum manufacturers didn't offer professional attributes to drums in this price range, because that's what he wanted to sell. Instead of waiting for salvation, he thought, hmm, I guess I have to do this myself. By pure coincidence, Tomek is a production technologist and architect, so he knew how to approach it. Design work lasted a long time, prototype after prototype. But what the heck...

My drums had to have:

  • 100% birch shells without cheap poplar fillers - done
  • professionally finished bearing edge so the head sits perfectly and tunes beautifully - done
  • beautiful metal vintage-style logo, not a plastic badge - done
  • non-drilled bearing - done
  • non-intrusive professional suspension - done
  • beautiful finish with visible wood grain, not cheap thin veneer - done
  • I liked this blue finish - done
  • stand on platform with double chain easy to mount to bearing, plus HH with spring tension adjustment - also done
  • tom holders that screw from both sides with ball bearings that don't sag during playing - done
  • Authentic sound - also done

Hmm I think we have a success - you know, Polmuz

Features

100% birch shells

The Birch series shells are made from 6 plies of birch with a total thickness of 6.9 mm. Sound was the highest priority in designing Polmuz drums. Balanced mid and high tones provide great versatility across many musical styles. Full, focused tone and resonance richness of the shells were achieved through the use of carefully selected birch plies, as well as attention to shell forming and bearing edge shape.

Bearing Edges

The 45° angle cut on the bearing edge means it contacts the head at an optimal point. Each bearing edge on Polmuz drums has been carefully sanded and additionally waxed, ensuring perfect head-to-shell contact. The result is clean tone across the full frequency range. Sharp finishing on tom bearing edges provides quick attack and short decay, while rounded bearing edges on bass drums generate unique and warm vintage tone.

Finish

Polmuz drum finishes give each set a unique look and distinctive tone. The lacquer used on Polmuz birch drum finishes is of excellent quality. The stunning blue color transitioning to black will impress even the most discerning tastes. The composition and application method correspond to those used in high-end series of respected brands.

Chrome Hardware

On Polmuz drums all hardware is finished with chrome plating. The cast logo on Polmuz shells is a true declaration of quality and style. Made of solid brass, the chrome Polmuz nameplate is a guarantee and signature of the excellent quality of each drum.

Mounting System

Non-intrusive mounting system ensures maximum resonance and stability regardless of conditions. This design allows tom positioning closer together, providing greater freedom and comfort.

Bass Drum Hooks

The hooks on Polmuz bass drums are equipped with rubber pads that help protect their wooden hoops from damage. In this arrangement, hooks and hoops form one cohesive unit so they don't separate or rattle, even with slack tuning.

Heads

The drums use pure single-ply coated heads of high quality under the Remo brand

Resonant heads additionally feature a wide muffling collar. The resonant heads are distinguished by their characteristic black head with a prominent Polmuz logo.

Quality and Professionalism

Polmuz, like the highest series from leading manufacturers, is treated individually, meaning there can be no compromise or defect in the drum set. Each percussion element undergoes careful inspection upon unpacking and is checked with a discerning, professional eye. We strive for Polmuz to be recognized as a premium product - all shell edges must be perfectly straight and smooth, and are additionally waxed to provide an even greater sense of professionalism and comfort. As we well know, a perfectly smooth edge brings joy and satisfaction during the traditional ritual of running your hand along the edge before installing a new head, not to mention the ease of tuning the drum and the perfect sound of the shell. Additionally, all drum hardware is checked because there is nothing more pleasant than smoothly threading screws into perfectly fitted lugs. After such thorough quality control, individual components of the set receive a sticker with a serial number, date, and a handwritten signature confirming the drum's high quality. Should any defect or irregularity be found, the shell is manufactured anew.

About the Polmuz Brand

Polmuz - a legendary brand producing the first Polish drums, known to every percussionist. The company was founded in the 1960s, and its facilities were located at 75/77 Grochowska Street in Warsaw. Besides drums, Polmuz also produced percussion accessories and wind instruments. The last drums were manufactured in the late 1990s, after which they completely disappeared from the market. In 2018, the team from the specialist percussion shop DrumStore in Gdynia decided to revive the Polmuz brand by acquiring full rights to its name.

Today, Polmuz produces high-quality drum sets and ethnic instruments that are in no way inferior to the best products from competitors. Bold design combined with proven solutions has allowed Polmuz to rapidly conquer not only the Polish percussion market, but also the hearts of those who remember their first Polmuz drums.
