Model 3 History and Design Guidelines

Once upon a time, far beyond seven mountains and forests, there lived a guy named Tomek. Tomek dreamed of being able to buy professional drums with hardware for 3500 PLN. Tomek wondered why top drum manufacturers didn't offer professional attributes on drums in this price range, because that's what he wanted to sell. Instead of waiting for salvation, he thought, well, I guess I have to do this myself. Quite by accident, Tomek is a production technologist and architect, so he knew how to approach it. The design work took a long time, with prototype after prototype. But what the heck...

My drum kit had to have:

• 100% birch shells without cheap poplar filler - done
• professionally finished bearing edge for perfect head seating and tuning - done
• beautiful metal vintage-style logo, not a plastic badge - done
• non-drilled bearing edge - done
• non-invasive professional suspension system - done
• beautiful lacquer with visible wood grain, not cheap thin veneer - done

FEATURES

100% birch shells

The Birch series shells are made from 6 layers of birch with a total thickness of 6.9 mm. The highest priority in designing Polmuz drums was sound. Balanced mid and high tones provide great versatility across many musical styles. Full, focused tone and rich resonance of the shells were achieved through the use of carefully selected layers of birch, as well as focus on shell forming and bearing edge shape.

Bearing Edges

The 45° angle cut on the bearing edges ensures they contact the head at the optimal point. Each bearing edge on Polmuz drums has been sanded and additionally waxed, ensuring perfect head-to-shell contact. The result is clear tone across the full frequency range. Sharp bearing edge finishing on toms delivers quick attack and short sustain, while the rounded bearing edge on bass drums generates unique and warm vintage tone.

Finish

The lacquer finish on Polmuz drums gives each set a unique look and distinctive tone. The lacquer used on Polmuz Birch drums is of excellent quality. The gorgeous blue color transitioning to black will delight even the most discerning tastes. The lacquer composition and application method matches those used in the premium series of renowned brands.

Chrome Hardware

All hardware on Polmuz drums features chrome plating. The cast logo on Polmuz shells is a true declaration of quality and style. Made from solid brass, the chrome-plated Polmuz nameplate is a guarantee and hallmark of the excellent craftsmanship of each drum.

Mounting System

A non-invasive mounting system ensures maximum resonance and stability regardless of conditions. This design makes it easy to position toms closer together, providing greater freedom and comfort.

Bass Drum Lugs

The lugs on Polmuz drum sets are equipped with rubber washers that help protect their wooden rims from damage. In this arrangement, the lugs and rims form one cohesive unit, so they don't separate or rattle, even with loose tunings.

Heads

Single-ply high-quality batter heads under the Remo brand are used on the drums

Resonant heads on the bass drums are additionally fitted with a wide dampening collar. Resonant heads are distinguished by characteristic black heads with a prominent Polmuz logo.

ABOUT THE BRAND

Polmuz - a legendary brand that produced the first Polish drums, known to every percussionist. The company was founded in the 1960s, and its facilities were located at 75/77 Grochowska Street in Warsaw. In addition to drums, Polmuz also produced percussion accessories and wind instruments. The last drums were made in the late 1990s, and then completely disappeared from the market. In 2018, the team of the specialist percussion shop DrumStore from Gdynia decided to reactivate the Polmuz brand by purchasing the complete rights to its name.

Today Polmuz produces high-quality drum sets and ethnic instruments that are in no way inferior to the best competing products. Bold design combined with proven solutions has made Polmuz storm not only the Polish percussion market, but also the hearts of those who remember their first Polmuz drums.
