Polmuz Bubinga Model 1 - 18/12/14
A small kit for clubs, jazz and the studio: an 18″ bass drum, one 12″ tom and a 14″ floor tom. Little to carry and quick to set up, and dense bubinga gives a low end hardly anyone expects from such a small bass drum.
Bubinga is the heaviest wood in our workshop and the top Polmuz model. We make it here, in our workshop in Gdynia, by hand and to order.
What's in the kit and where the price comes from

Video
Paweł Ostrowski from the 4Drummer channel recorded the bubinga in three tunings, with no EQ and with light EQ. In the video he plays a 20/12/16 kit.
Features
100% bubinga shells
Bubinga is an African wood, dark, heavy and very dense: dry, it weighs about 890 kg per cubic metre, maple about 700, walnut about 600. You hear that density from the very first hit: a huge low end, strong projection and a clear attack. The shells are only 4.8 mm, so bubinga doesn't only play rock, it also works in quieter music.
Bearing edges
We cut the bearing edges at a 45° angle, then sand and wax them. They're ultra-sharp on every drum, the bass drum included, because dense bubinga lets us sand a very sharp edge. The head sits exactly where it should, so the drum tunes easily and sounds modern and articulate.

Finish
We do the finish by hand in our Gdynia workshop, so every kit has its own one-of-a-kind wood figure. You choose it in the add-ons, priced per drum: natural wax PLN 100 (the whole bubinga figure shows), oil in one colour, fade or solid, PLN 500, lacquer PLN 500, black matte PLN 590 and artistic finish, hand-painted with a brush, PLN 990.
Tube Lug
The Tube Lug lugs barely touch the shell, so the drum can resonate freely. Each one has a long tension rod seated deep in the lug and a double washer, metal and nylon, that holds the tuning.
Hardware
Standard hardware is chrome. Gold also suits the warm colour of bubinga really well: we can fit gold hardware to any drum for an extra PLN 400 per drum. Black chrome is coming soon too.
Mounting system
The tom mount doesn't interfere with the shell, so it doesn't steal any resonance. The streamlined design makes it easy to set the toms close together, and the aluminium parts are light.
Bass drum claws
The bass drum claws have rubber pads that protect the wooden hoops. Claw and hoop work as one piece, so nothing rattles, even with a loose tuning.
Drumheads
The toms get Evans G2 clear heads, the bass drum an Evans EMAD, and the resonant heads are vintage-style with a bold Polmuz logo.
Label and warranty
Inside each drum there's a label with the owner's full name, and we give the shell a lifetime warranty.
Quality and Professionalism
Polmuz, like the highest series from leading manufacturers, is treated individually, meaning there can be no compromise or defect in the drum set. Each percussion element undergoes careful inspection upon unpacking and is checked with a discerning, professional eye. We strive for Polmuz to be recognized as a premium product - all shell edges must be perfectly straight and smooth, and are additionally waxed to provide an even greater sense of professionalism and comfort. As we well know, a perfectly smooth edge brings joy and satisfaction during the traditional ritual of running your hand along the edge before installing a new head, not to mention the ease of tuning the drum and the perfect sound of the shell. Additionally, all drum hardware is checked because there is nothing more pleasant than smoothly threading screws into perfectly fitted lugs. After such thorough quality control, individual components of the set receive a sticker with a serial number, date, and a handwritten signature confirming the drum's high quality. Should any defect or irregularity be found, the shell is manufactured anew.
About the Polmuz Brand
Polmuz - a legendary brand producing the first Polish drums, known to every percussionist. The company was founded in the 1960s, and its facilities were located at 75/77 Grochowska Street in Warsaw. Besides drums, Polmuz also produced percussion accessories and wind instruments. The last drums were manufactured in the late 1990s, after which they completely disappeared from the market. In 2018, the team from the specialist percussion shop DrumStore in Gdynia decided to revive the Polmuz brand by acquiring full rights to its name.
Today, Polmuz produces high-quality drum sets and ethnic instruments that are in no way inferior to the best products from competitors. Bold design combined with proven solutions has allowed Polmuz to rapidly conquer not only the Polish percussion market, but also the hearts of those who remember their first Polmuz drums.
